Let’s create a very short short

Instructors: Joana Nogueira and Patrícia Rodrigues

Presentation: In this workshop we want to get our hands dirty. In a group, we will create a very short stop-motion animation short. We challenge you to come and try different animation techniques with objects, and learn about the appropriate software for the technique.

How to internalize all the Animation techniques with just one Pixilation technique

Instructor: Damián Perea Lezcano

Presentation: Pixilation. Using the stop-motion technique, but using your own body as a puppet. With this interesting technique, for two days you will have the opportunity to work with your own body, which will help you to internalize the animation process and allow you to apply it to any technique you choose.

Workshop 1

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT METHODS

Instructors: Ricardo Adrêgo & Nicolau Tudela

November 6th (Monday)

Synopsis: The workshop will focus on processes and methods for character creation in a narrative context. After a brief theoretical introduction to the most common techniques used in the industry, the participants will be asked to create rival characters, in groups of two. In this way, we can create a dynamic exchange for discussing ideas and expanding creative possibilities that will be reflected in the duality of the characters.

Workshop 2

Introduction to 2D and 3D hybrid animation

Instructors: Mário Filipe Araújo e Hélder Barbosa

November 7th (Tuesday)

Sinopse: This workshop aims to introduce different questions and uses for the integration of 2D and 3D animation so that those interested can try the process of combining two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements. The workshop is split into two parts. The first will address matters related to 3D animation, such as base modelling and texturing, and the second part will address matters related to 2D animation, such as the integration of 3D elements into a two-dimensional environment.

2D Digital Animation Techniques

Synopsis: Introduction to 2D animation using Photoshop. 2D film production processes, presentation of the program and animation techniques to develop short animation exercises.

Workshop 4

Introduction to 2D digital animation

November 9th (Thursday)

Synopsis: In this workshop the instructor will present techniques and processes for 2D digital animation. Introduction to the Adobe Photoshop software for character creation and to Adobe AfterEffects for animation. Using these digital tools, we will create a small animation.

Flat design character animation in After Effects

Synopsis: How to draw a flat design character so that it is optimized for animation in AfterEffects. How to import this character into AfterEffects and animate a walk cycle.
