Much more than a simple film festival

Every year, CINANIMA offers a large variety of competitive and non-competitive programmes, apart from all the other events paralell to the screening of the films.

In the International Competitive Section, CINANIMA contemplates:

1 – Short Films, with are the following categories::

– Up to five minutes;;
– More than 5 up to 24 minutes;
– More than 24 up t0 50 minutes;
– Commissioned Films – Commercials and Information;
– Animated Documentary.

2 – Feature Films (more than 50 minutes)

3 – School Films and/or Graduation Films – films directed by students or graduates and produced at Art Schools, Film Schools or Training Schools for Animated Film, under 50 minutes long are admitted.

The National Competitive Section includes two different contests: the António Gaio Award and the Young Portuguese Director Award, which is divided into two different categories: films made by children and youngsters (until 18) and First Film of Young Directors (aged between 18 and 30).

In addition to the competitive programs, CINANIMA has a diverse Non-Competitive Section, with programs dedicated to prominent countries, author retrospectives, thematic programs and the Grand Panorama, which includes the Animated Mermaid screenings and Schools Come to CINANIMA, whose target audience are children and youngsters from schools around the city.

Exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses and Q&A, meetings between the directors, other professionals and the audience in general are also part of the Festival’s programme.
