The 50th edition of CINANIMA – Espinho International Animation Film Festival – is just around the corner and already features a trailer specially created to mark half a century of history.
Conceived and directed by Bruno Simões, the film – produced in collaboration with Studio Kimchi – aims to bring the atmosphere of CINANIMA to the screen.
Guided by the Cinamitos – the characters who bring the world of this commemorative edition to life – the audience embarks on a lively journey to the Espinho Multimedia Centre, one of CINANIMA’s main venues. The opening credits transform this journey into a celebration of the diversity found both inside and outside the festival’s screening theatres: along the way, different techniques, styles and visual worlds intertwine in a collective creation, reflecting the artistic diversity of the short films that, year after year, are screened at CINANIMA.
The following directors also contributed to the creation: Maria Manero Muro, Juanjo Surace, Alessandro Dettori Novelli, Carina Corso, Toni Mortero, Ala Nunu, Patrícia Figueiredo, Alice Eça Guimarães, Vier Nev and Lil Sims, each bringing their own techniques and visual identities to the project. Production coordination was handled by Lídia Luna, whilst the visual development was carried out by Regina Insenser, Clara Erraez and Avril Moreno. The storyboard was conceived and created by Ricardo Adrego and Jorge Ribeiro.
The animation was created by Diana Sánchez, Jorge Ribeiro, Ricardo Adrego, Paulo Júnior, Guilherme Bosco, Mónica Marinho and Gaël Antonelli. Regina Insenser was responsible for the clean-up and painting, whilst the 3D modelling was carried out by Noelia Arcos Rubio. The lighting and compositing were done by Manal Barghout el Ghailani, the voice-over by Tanya Vidreiro Costa, and the music and sound design by Aurélien Vieira Lind.
The 50th edition of CINANIMA will take place from 6 to 22 November 2026, celebrating five decades dedicated to promoting and showcasing auteur animation.
