In recent days, CINANIMA has been present at Monstra – Lisbon Animation Festival and also at the Kaboom Festival (Holland), where we were able to experience a little of these festivals, exchange ideas and, above all, feel the contagious energy of this community.
The closing ceremony of the 25th edition of Monstra took place on March 29. The short film “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, won the Vasco Granja Grand Prize and also the audience award. The Festival also honored Estonian director Priit Pärn with a Career Award, as well as Manuel Matos Barbosa, a member of CINANIMA’s curatorial board and one of the main promoters of animated films in Portugal. The festival celebrated its 25th anniversary with a program spread across various venues in Lisbon, with Cinema São Jorge as one of the main stages. There, various initiatives dedicated to animation cinema, both national and international, were promoted, including film screenings, exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses and debates.
The Kaboom Festival ran from March 21 to 30 in Utrecht and Amsterdam. The closing ceremony took place on March 29, where Raphaël Jouzeau’s short film “Scars We Love” won the award for Best International Short Film. With this year’s theme being “provocation”, the festival was filled with energy, excitement and many incredible sessions that allowed us to cry, laugh and reflect.
The diversity of each festival inspires us and we return from these trips with new perspectives and motivated to continue taking animation cinema everywhere with enthusiasm and dedication!
